On February 18th 2025, ENIGMA (Endorsing safeguarding, protection, and provenance management of cultural heritage) and AURORA (Artwork Unique Recognition and Tracking through Chemical encoded data, miniaturized devices and blockchain alliance) projects organized a round table to discuss the blockchain technologies and tools that are being developed in both projects in order to identify common grounds and potential synergies between the projects. The discussion focused on the development issues and in the integration of blockchain under real world conditions on the cultural heritage sector.

The round table was attended by 10 participants from both projects. During the round table an overview of the developed tools and technologies was presented followed by a discussion on the tools and the potential synergies that could be created.
The conclusions of the ENIGMA AURORA round table were the following:

  • Since both projects are still developing and optimizing their tools considering end user feedback another meeting will be scheduled at a later date when the tools are more mature to identify potential synergies.
  • ENIGMA and AURORA are using similar blockchain technologies, but they are trying to solve different problems. AURORA is focusing on creating a blockchain approach focusing on known registered cultural goods with known provenance, while ENIGMA is focusing on creating a blockchain approach focusing on unregistered unknown cultural goods.
